What – the college offers a six month course for students wanting to find out more about God and themselves, by serving in a community focussed church, while indulging in some adventure on the way. This is perfect for those not quite sure what path they want to go down career-wise but know that they want to get a firm biblical base in whatever profession they pursue.

It is a full-time part study/part practical paper (5 hours academic and 15 hours practical), with learning aimed at growing you in your own personal walk with God. Alongside this will be the opportunity to work and serve in a range of church areas. These include Youth, Foodbank, Mainly Music, Sunday Services, Kids, Life Groups, Teaching in church, Production and Worship.

Every few weeks there will be an organised college adventure which are covered in your course costs. These include surf lessons/refining (when at Raglan, it’s a must), Caving, Kayaking, Horse Treks, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, SUP sessions, the Tongariro Crossing and the Solo where you get dropped in the bush with some essentials and a bible and have some time with God and yourself. Also, due to our beautiful natural surroundings, there are lots of chances for everyday adventures. We believe that life with Jesus should always be an adventure.

Where – In the beautiful seaside town of Raglan, situated 40 minutes west of Hamilton on the wild west coast. The college is based out of Surfside Church.

Who – We are a church of around 120, but we reach out to over 250 community members each week through Youth, Foodbank, Mainly music and our Sunday Services.

Andy and Christina Peart – We are part of the Leadership team at Church and are overseeing the day-to-day organisation of the college. Chris did the college herself three years ago and serves in multiple areas in the church; including on the youth and worship teams. She now studies in Early Childcare and works locally in the Raglan Day care. Andy leads the Youth, is one of the worship leaders and part of the teaching team at Church. He is an educator by trade, and has taught for 8 years and oversees the senior syndicate at Hillcrest Normal School. They were married last year, and Andy still has to pinch himself to realise that he scored an absolute babe and beautiful soul.

Ed and Marion Wright - Marion is the Academic Facilitator at Surfside Adventure College. She has overseen the college for three years and is passionate about learning more about God’s word. She is married to Ed and has two young boys, Israel and Brayden. She also heads up the Community Services, Creative and Events teams; and is one of our all-star mums. Both Marion and her husband, Ed, have been through the college as students themselves.  Ed is a husband/dad/writer/beekeeper/endurance sports enthusiast and key part of our church whether it is in the worship team, news production, life groups or anything else he can get his hands on.

Oversight will be provided by our Senior Pastor Roger Peart.

When – It is a 20 week course starting mid February and graduation is early July. This frees up the second half of the year to either continue serving in these areas while saving money for future studies or taking up a midyear intake elsewhere.

Why – It gives you the chance to experience church life and work out the practical implications of what you are learning about. It provides you with the chance to work out who you are, what areas are your strengths and how to grow closer to God. The real question is why not?

How – You can find out more on our church website at surfside.co.nz, email us at surfsideadventurecollege@gmail.com or phone the church office 07-8255199 and they’ll put you in contact with the right people.
